Iguana Crossing was built to conserve without compromising performance. Low-flow faucets and fixtures help save water, compact fluorescent light bulbs use about 75% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs, and energy-efficient appliances use approximately 30% less energy.
We reduce waste wherever we can by minimizing the use of plastic utensils and paper cups, filtered drinking water for water potable coolers eliminate the need for plastic bottles, and all natural bathroom amenities come from biodegradable compounds.
Iguana Crossing offers an extensive recycling programas per local municipal iniciative in guestrooms and common areas of the hotel.
We purchase organic coffee and hand-picked local organic fruits from San Cristobal Islandīs charitable volunteer organization, Hacienda Tranquila. Chicken, fish, eggs, and other foods served at Casa Opuntia Galapagos Hotel, when available are also local.

Since we are in the certification process through Rainforest Alliance, Iguana Crossing firmly believes and executes the model for sustainable tourism and green hotel operations. Owners and management team have been involved with Isabela Island for more than a decade, therefore we have engaged in several activities with Isabela residents and authorities to stimulate and educate on their own well being and their islands. 2011 Projects: Arteducarte (School of Art for Children); Training Program for local Tour Operators on Quality and other Administrative/Accounitng Tools; Kayaking Sponsorship for local operator, Hiring and permanent training 98% of service associates which are from the Galapagos Islands; Sponsor the new Strategic Plan for Isabela as tour destination led by Municipal and Tourism authorities.
